FIRST EVER ALL-OHIO 1GIRL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Over the (freezing cold) first weekend of November, ten students across all three of our Ohio collegiate chapters (1girl OSU, 1girl UC, 1girl Ashland) arrived at Camp Mary Orton for the first-ever 1girl Leadership Conference!
Over the weekend, our students shared best practices, engaged with the board, discussed why the work we do matters, and enjoy the climbing wall, zip line, and S’mores! To top things off, Dr. Sierra Austin – a leading expert in feminist theory and black girlhood studies, former 1girl Board Member, and curator and creator of our new-and-improved curriculum – facilitated a pop-culture and story-based training on some of the foundations embedded in our “Building Future Leaders” leadership development program.
We learned a lot from this weekend and look forward to a bigger and better retreat in 2020 (including one in Los Angeles?). Thanks to our Leadership Columbus team for their research and proposal for the conference as part of their Community Impact Project, Dr. Sierra Austin for an engaging presentation of the new curriculum themes, and to all of our 1girl chapter members that spent their weekend with us!
