About
Established as a 501(c)(3) in 2013, 1girl is a non-profit organization that originated based in Columbus, Ohio that provides skills-based leadership development to at-risk middle school girls through a program called “Educating Future Leaders”. We target skills that girls don't get in school - like creative problem solving, goal setting, and public speaking. Our programs focus on girls with the highest need - those living in low-income neighborhoods, areas with large numbers of high school dropouts, those in failing school systems, and those at risk for pregnancy, drug use, and delinquency.
The programs are facilitated by local college women who volunteer through their university chapter, providing these women an opportunity to develop their skills through a real-world leadership role. The girls we serve in grades 5-8 are led to fulfilling and successful futures by developing skills that they need to excel as confident, self-reliant leaders.

1girl provides a unique, proven curriculum that empowers middle school girls to develop the skills they will need to be successful. The program is designed around five core skills:
Public Speaking
Creative problem solving
Critical Thinking
Goal Setting
Conflict resolution
Mission
Providing leadership development to middle-school girls and college women to help close the gender leadership gap.

Vision
Our ultimate goal is to see every girl empowered – to see communities that believe in and develop their girls as students and future leaders – to witness the unshackling of suppression from gender inequality and gross educational disparities – to see our girls become leaders and the professionals they dreamed of becoming and then helping perpetuate our mission.
